
B:Music Announces 2023-24 Birmingham Classical Series
By Afton MarkayB:Music has announced its Birmingham Classical Series for the 2023-24 season.
The Birmingham Classical Series at Town Hall and Symphony Hall’s season includes several well-known orchestras, soloists, and ensembles. This article will only feature vocal-related events.
The King’s Singers start off the vocal lineup with their “When You Wish Upon a Star” program. Selection from Grieg, Byrd, Saint-Saëns, traditional and modern carols, and a celebration of 100 years of Disney will be heard. This event will be held at Town Hall at 7:30 pm.

The ECHO Rising Stars Concerts features soprano soloist Axelle Fanyo. She is joined by Kunal Lahiry at the piano. Works by Schoenberg, Gershwin, Florence Price, Margret Bonds, and more will be heard at the Jennifer Blackwell Performance Space at 11 am.
Performance Date: February 25, 2024
The group will celebrate Good Friday with Bach’s “St. John’s Passion.” The 300th anniversary of the piece will be performed by Ex Cathedra, Ex Cathedra Choir, Baroque Orchestra and Academy of Vocal Music. Jeffrey Skidmore conducts James Robinson as Evangelist, Themba Mvula as Jesus, and Lawrence White as Pilate and bass soloist. The concert will take place at Symphony Hall at 2 pm.
