Biwako Hall in Japan to Perform ‘Götterdämmerung’ without Audience

By Francisco Salazar

The Biwako Hall in Japan has announced it will perform “Götterdämmerung” without an audience and stream it live on YouTube this weekend due to the coronavirus.

The Biwako Hall is a publicly run theater for performing arts in Japan and this performance will mark the end of the company’s Ring cycle, which started in 2017.

The opera will be live streamed on March 7 and 8, 2020.

The cast is set to include Christian Franz, Stephanie Müther, Fumihiko Shimura, Shigeo Ishino, Hidekazu Tsumaya, and Fumiko Ando. Ryusuke Numajiri conducts the new production by Michael Hampe with costumes and stage design by Henning von Gierke.

This is the latest performance to be live streamed without an audience due to the outbreak. The Teatro la Fenice performed a concert earlier this week without an audience and live streamed it on YouTube.
