Birmingham Opera to Perform Michael Tippett’s ‘New Year’

The Birmingham Opera Company has announced a production for 2024. 

The company said that it will present “New Year” by Michael Tippett in July 2024.

The opera will be directed by opera legend Keith Warner, making his debut with Birmingham Opera Company and BOC Music Director Alpesh Chauhan will conduct the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra alongside “hundreds of Brummies in an extraordinary space” which is currently “top secret.”

“New Year” tells the intertwining stories of Somewhere Today and Nowhere Tomorrow. It made its world premiere in Houston, Texas in 1989 and has since been performed at the Glyndebourne, in 1990. It hasn’t been seen live since anywhere.

The opera will be performed six times in 2024.
