The Bilbao Opera has announced its 2021-22 season.

In a press release, the company noted that during the 2021-22 season it will present Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann, “Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito, ” the famed double bill of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci,” as well as another opera pairing featuring Poulenc’s “La voix humaine” and Zemlinsky’s  “Eine florentinische Tragödie.”

The announcement comes a few days after the company revealed its plans for the 2020-21 season, which features five productions headlined by such opera stars as Ainhoa Arteta, Anna Pirozzi, and Ekaterina Semenchuk.

The announcement also comes a few weeks after the company revealed that it was rescheduling its canceled production of “Anna Bolena” for the 2022-23 season. That production will now star Joyce El-Khoury instead of Angela Meade, who was set to perform the production this season before the company was forced to shut down due to the spread of COVID-19.

More information regarding casting for the 2021-22 season will be revealed next year.
