Bilbao Opera Cancels Second Performance of ‘Il Turco in Italia’

By Francisco Salazar

The Bilbao Opera has canceled its performance of “Il Turco in Italia” scheduled for Oct. 26.

The company announced that due to the new curfew imposed by the Spanish government, the performance will not be able to take place.

The performance was set to begin at 8 p.m. and end after 11 p.m., which is the time the curfew is set to begin.

The news comes after the Bilbao Opera extended the production from five performances to nine due to the limit on audiences. However, over the past few days, Spain has seen record numbers of new COVID-19 cases, which has caused the Spanish government to impose new restrictions. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the new curfew, which came into force on Sunday night, would be in place between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. for 15 days in order to stop the spread of the virus.

Spain was hit by the coronavirus in the winter and has over one million cases and 35,000 confirmed deaths.
