Bilbao Opera Announces Orchestra Change for ‘Otello’

By Francisco Salazar

The Bilbao Opera has announced an orchestra change for its production of “Otello.”

According to Platea Magazine, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will accompany the ensemble of soloists in the production, which opens on May 17. The orchestra will replace the originally scheduled  Sinfónica de Bilbao.

According to the magazine, the reason for the change is due to the upcoming strikes by the musicians of the  Sinfónica de Bilbao.

“Otello” is set to star Jorge de León in the title role, Ermonela Jaho as Desdemona, and Claudio Sgura as Iago. Francesco Ivan Ciampa will conduct the production by Ignacio García.

“Otello” is set to run through May 30, 2025.
