The Bilbao Opera in Spain has announced a cast change for “Alzira.”

The company noted that Carmen Solis will take over the title role replacing the originally scheduled Hui He.

Solis is well known in Spain as she has performed at the Oviedo Opera, Teatro Municipal de Chile, and Bilbao Opera. Her repertoire includes the music of Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, and Leoncavallo. She is also a recognized interpretation of Zarzuela.

The soprano will be joined by Maestro Daniel Oren and Sergio Escobar in the role of Zamoro and Juan Jesús Rodríguez as Gusmano. Jean Pierre Gamarra directs the production which is part of the tutto Verdi cycle in Bilbao.

“Alzira” will be performed on April 23, 25, 27, and 30, 2022.
