Bilbao Opera Adds Performances to ‘Il Turco in Italia’

By Francisco Salazar

The Bilbao Opera has added performances of Rossini’s “Il Turco in Italia.”

The Spanish company announced that due to the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and the theater only allowing 600 spectators, it will open earlier than expected and will add a presentation at the end of the run. As a result, the opera will now be shown six times as opposed to the original four shows from Oct. 21 to Nov. 2, 2020.

The opera will star Sabina Puértolas as Fiorilla and Paolo Bordogna as Selim. The cast will be rounded out by Renato Girolami, David Alegret, Pietro Spagnoli, Marina Viotti, and Moisés Marín.

Emilio Sagi directs the production with Christophe Rousset conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao.
