Beth Morrison Projects Announces West Coast Premier of ‘Magdalene’

Beth Morrison Projects has announced the west coast premiere of “Magdalene.”

“Magdalene,” which opened at the Prototype Festival in 2020 features the original cast members, co-creator Danielle Birrittella in the title role, and Movement Artist Ariana Daub as Magdalene’s body double. Co-creator Zoe Aja Moore⁣ directs.

The work features music by 14 women identifying composers Leila Adu, Ruby Kato Attwood, Danielle Birrittella, Sheena Birrittella, Christina Courtin, Gabrielle Herbst, Molly Joyce, Emma O’Halloran, Tanner Porter, Kamala Sankaram, Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir, Annika Socolofsky, and Gyda Valtýsdóttir, with additional music by Ellen Reid⁣.  The music is set to text by poet Marie Howie, whose poetry collection “Magdalene” reimagines the life of the biblical Mary Magdalene.

Performance take place at the Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater (REDCAT) in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex in downtown Los Angeles, June 4 and 5, and 7 and 8.
