The Berlin Staatsoper unter der Linden has officially confirmed that it will honor its contract with Plácido Domingo.

Domingo is slated to appear in Verdi’s “La Traviata” on Jan. 16 and 19 in the role of Giorgio Germont.

In a press release, Matthias Schulz, by the Staatsoper’s Intendant said, “In this specific case, we are sticking to the appearances of Plácido  Domingo, who always behaved in an exemplary  manner with us at this house, and we do not see enough evidence to break a long-standing contract.”

Domingo will join a cast that includes Zuzana Marková, Benjamin Bernheim, Natalia Skrycka, Constance Heller, Andrés Moreno García, Adam Kutny, Grigory Shkarupa and Jan Martiník.

Thomas Guggeis will conduct Dieter Dorn’s production.

After his appearances in Berlin, Domingo is set to perform in the title role of Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” at the Staatsoper Hamburg.
