Berlin Philharmonic Extends Artistic Director’s Contract

The Board of Trustees of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation has approved the extension of Andrea Zietzschmann’s contract as Artistic Director.

Zietzschmann will now lead the orchestra’s foundation for three more years, until summer 2028.

Zietzschmann first took the position of Artistic Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation in September 2017. With teh extension, there will continuity and stability for the foundation, the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Philharmonie, with its Great Hall and Chamber Music Hall venues.

In a statement, Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko said, “The extension of Andrea Zietzschmann’s contract is very good news. We can now shape the long-term future, together with the orchestra, on the basis of what we have already achieved, and in the spirit of our close and trusting collaboration to date.”

Meanwhile, the Senator for Culture and Social Cohesion and Chairman of the Foundation Board, Joe Chialo, added, “Andrea Zietzschmann is one of the leading personalities in the music industry, and it is wonderful that we can keep her in Berlin for another three years. Together with Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker, she forms a team that will ensure the excellence of the orchestra. The Berliner Philharmoniker is, and will remain, world class.”
