Berlin Philharmonic Cancels US Tour

By Francisco Salazar

The Berlin Philharmonic has canceled its planned US tour.

The orchestra announced that it has been forced to cancel due to the ongoing restrictions on international travel caused by the corona pandemic and the closure of some concert halls in the USA.

The tour, which was expected to take place in November, was supposed to feature the orchestra in 10 concerts in six different cities, including a final residency at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Andrea Zietzschmann, General Manager of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation said, “We are already in dialogue with the promoters to catch up on the concerts planned in Naples, Miami, Boston, Ann Arbor, Chicago, and New York in the coming years. At the moment, such a tour is unfortunately not feasible due to the current situation, and it would also be irresponsible to stick to the original plans, however much this decision hurts.”

The orchestra however will continue with its planned concert at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt am Main on Nov. 4, 2020.
