Berlin Philharmonic Announces Cast Changes for Verdi’s Requiem

By Francisco Salazar

The Berlin Philharmonic has announced two cast changes for its upcoming Verdi Requiem performances.

The company noted both mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili and tenor Fabio Sartori have unfortunately had to cancel their participation in the performances of Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem under the baton of Daniel Barenboim from March 11 to 13 due to illness.

As a result, Marina Prudenskaya will take over for Anita Rachvelishvili, while the tenor part will now be sung by Michael Spyres.

Prudenskaya has performed Royal Opera, Dutch National Opera, Mariinsky Theatre, Teatro alla Scala, Vienna Festival, and Bayreuth Festival, among others. Meanwhile, Spyres has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Gran Theatre de Liceu, Theater an der Wien, Theatre des Champs Elysees, and Teatro alla Scala.

Both soloists will join Daniel Barenboim conducting soprano Elena Stikhina and bass René Pape.
