Berlin Philharmonic Announces Cast Change

By Francisco Salazar

The Berlin Philharmonic has announced a cast change for its May 29 concert.

The orchestra announced that “due to the current pandemic situation and the tightened entry conditions from Great Britain, tenor Allan Clayton has unfortunately had to cancel his participation in the concert conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.”

As a result, Andrew Staples will sing in Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings op. 31 in his stead.

Staples is best known for his work in Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Britten, and Tavener repertoire. The tenor appears at leading opera houses, concert halls, and renowned festivals. Staples made his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in early February 2009 under the direction of Simon Rattle.

The concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker will be conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and will also include music by Ginastera. The concert will be streamed on the Digital Concert Hall on May 29, 2021.
