Berkeley Symphony to Present ‘Play on Words’

By Francisco Salazar

The Berkeley Symphony is set to continue its Chamber Series with “Play On Words.”

The concert will be held on April 14, 2024, at the Piedmont Center for the Arts and will be a celebration of poetry and literature. The concert will include musical works inspired by the works of Emily Dickinson, John Keats, and William Shakespeare. Among the composers highlighted in the concert are Gordon Getty and Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

There will also be music by Jake Heggie, and Franz Schubert.

Guest artists will include soprano Lisa Delan as well as musicians Rene Mandel, Evan Kahn, and Kevin Korth.

In a statement Mandel said, “Play on Words seamlessly blends poetry and music, intertwining the extraordinary contemporary voices of Getty and Heggie with the sublime romantic classics of Korngold and Schubert. We are thrilled to welcome back soprano Lisa Delan, pianist Kevin Korth, and cellist Evan Kahn, who will once again grace us with their incomparable artistry.  We are grateful to the Piedmont Center of the Arts for their 11-year partnership with the Berkeley Symphony and Friends Chamber of Music series.”
