The Metropolitan Opera is set to present Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”

The company showcase the opera from Sept. 24 to Oct. 18, 2024 and will star French tenor Benjamin Bernheim in his signature role. OperaWire has praised the tenor for his interpretation in Salzburg and Paris noting, “The tenor possesses a voice of immaculate texture with a wide-range of colors to go with a robust technique, incredible high notes, and impeccable diction” and “his voice has a piercing tone, and his legato is smooth”

He will joined by mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya who makes her company debut in the double role of the Muse and Nicklausse. Soprano Erin Morley reprises her acclaimed turn as Olympia with soprano Pretty Yende as Antonia and Stella, and mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine as Giulietta.

Bass-baritone Christian Van Horn sings The Four Villains which OperaWire has noted “he performs the villain roles convincingly as perhaps congenial figures.”

Marco Armiliato conducts Bartlett Sher’s 2009 production.

“Les Contes d’Hoffmann will be shown live in HD on Oct. 5, 2024 and will also be broadcast on Sept. 24 and Oct. 18 on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app and streamed on the Met’s website.
