Benjamin Bernheim Announces New Album ‘Douce France’

By Francisco Salazar

French star tenor Benjamin Bernheim has announced his latest album for Deutsche Grammophon.

The new album will be his first solo song album entitled “Douce France: Mélodies & Chansons” and is inspired by his long study and experience of French song.

Bernheim interprets songs by Berlioz, Chausson, Duparc, Brel, Kosma, and Trenet. The tenor is joined by pianist Carrie-Ann Matheson, who transcribed the relevant orchestral scores into the more idiomatic versions heard on this album. The album is set to be released on August 20, 2024 with the first single “Villanelle” from Berlioz’s classic cycle “Les nuits d’été” out now.

“Douce France” is Bernheim’s third album for DG following his self-titled debut in 2019 and the 2022 album “Boulevard des Italiens.”

The tenor next performs “Les Contes d’Hofmann” at the Salzburg Festival and reprises the opera at the Metropolitan Opera this fall.
