Benjamin Appl Replaces Piotr Beczala In Austria

Piotr Beczala has canceled his upcoming recital.

The tenor announced via social media that due to illness he would not be able to perform the recital planned for August 25, 2018. The tenor said, “With deepest regret I have to inform, that I am forced to cancel my Saturday’s performance at the Angelika Kauffmann Hall in Schwarzenberg due to laryngitis. My place at Helmut Deutsch’s side will be taken by a young baritone Benjamin Appl, whom I wish a successful recital. With best wishes Piotr.”

Beczala is coming off his debut at the Bayreuth Festival where he performed the title role of “Lohengrin.” He is scheduled for two more recitals in Austria before performing at the Dvorak Festival. He is also slated to return to the Gran Teatre del Liceu and to the Metropolitan Opera.

Meanwhile, Appl is set to release his solo album for Sony Classical and will perform at the Hamburg State Opera.
