Ben Bliss, Kathryn Lewek & Sarah Coburn Headline Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s 2019-20 Season

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City has announced its 2019-20 season which will include four main staged productions. Of these four operas, there will be two new productions and a Kansas City premiere. All performances will be accompanied by members of the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra. Here is a look!

Main Stage

The season opens with “The Abduction from the Seraglio” starring Ben Bliss as Belmonte, Kathryn Lewek as Konstanze, and Rachele Gilmore as Blonde. Alison Moritz directs the new production, which sets the opera in Tinseltown. Michael Christie conducts and Matthew Boehler rounds out the cast as Osmin.

Performance Dates: Sept. 21-29, 2019

Raquel González and Georgy Vasiliev star in Puccini’s “La Bohème” with Sylvia D’Eramo as Musetta, and Timothy Renner as Marcello. Christian Zaremba rounds out the cast as Colline, with David Charles Abell conducting the classic work.

Performance Date: Nov. 9-17, 2019

Sarah Coburn sings the title role in Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” with Evan LeRoy Johnson as her lover Edgardo. Troy Cook is Enrico while Adam Lau is Raimondo. Carlo Montanaro conducts the bel canto masterpiece.

Performance Dates: March 7-15, 2020

Edward Parks and Kelly Kaduce star in the second-ever production of Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell’s “The Shining.” Eric Simonson directs the Kansas City premiere with legendary Gerard Schwarz conducting.

Performance Dates: April 25-May 3, 2020
