‘Bel Canto’ Trailer Features Renée Fleming & Julianne Moore

By Francisco Salazar

The trailer to Paul Weitz’s “Bel Canto” has been released.

The new film, based on the Ann Patchett’s novel, which was also turned into an opera, is inspired by the events of the Japanese embassy hostage crisis (also called the Lima hostage crisis) of 1996-1997 in Lima, Peru. The film stars Julianne Moore, Ken Watanabe, Sebastian Koch, Christopher Lambert, Ryo Kase, Tenoch Huerta, and María Mercedes Coroy.

Renée Fleming, who was part of commissioning the opera for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, will also be featured as Moore’s singing voice. Fleming is no stranger to Hollywood as she participated in last year’s Oscar-winning films “The Shape of Water” and “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Screen Media Films will release “Bel Canto” on Sept. 14, 2018.
