
BBC Severs Ties with Norman LeBrecht Following Accusations of Misogynistic Bullying
By Francisco SalazarBBC has severed its relationship with Norman LeBrecht after pianist Yuja Wang accused him of misogynistic bullying.
According to the a statement to the Guardian, BBC Controller Sam Jackson said, “When we saw the social media post we took action – we have spoken to Norman Lebrecht and we will no longer be working with him at BBC Radio 3.
The social media post Jackson refers to is an email that LeBrecht sent Wang after she decided to withdraw from an interview on The LeBrecht interview. Wang posted the email on her instagram in which read, “I am surprised and disappointed. I thought you were a serious person who stood by her commitments. I may have to revise that opinion.”
Wang also posted it with a response that said, “@normanlebrecht this derogatory misogynistic bullying need to stop. We are human beings who grow with nourishing energy, not characters for you to abuse.”
Lebrecht is known for his famed blog Slippedisc and for having written for the Telegraph and the Evening Standard.
