BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition Announces 2021 Contestants

The BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition has announced the names of this year’s contestants.

The following singers will be competing for the prestigious award: soprano Christina Gansch, tenor Chuan Wang, bass Nicolai Elsberg, mezzo-soprano Stephanie Wake-Edwards, mezzo-soprano Natalia Kutateladze, soprano Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir, baritone Michael Rakotoarivony, baritone Ankhbayar Enkhbold, baritone Gihoon Kim, bass-baritone Jusung Park, soprano Elbenita Kajtazi Halimi, mezzo-soprano Evgeniia Asanova, soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, baritone Reginald Smith Jr, soprano Maria Brea, and soprano Sarah Gilford.

Andrew Litton and Michael Christie will conduct the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera that will accompany the singers.

BBC Cardiff Singer of the World is a competition for opera singers held every two years. The competition was started by BBC Wales in 1983 in order to celebrate the opening of St David’s Hall in Cardiff.

The famed competition will take place from June 12-19, 2021 in Cardiff and will be broadcast on BBC Four, BBC Wales, Radio 3 and Radio Cymru.
