By Francisco Salazar

The Bayreuth Festival has announced cast changes for its productions of “Götterdämmerung” and “Die Walküre.”

The company said that “unfortunately, Emily Magee is unable to sing the parts of Sieglinde and Gutrune due to an infection that has not yet fully recovered.”

As a result, Elisabeth Teige has agreed to take on the part of Sieglinde and Aile Asszonyi will make her Bayreuth Festival debut as Gutrune.

Tiege is already scheduled to perform in productions of “Tannhäuser” and “Der Fliegende Holländer.” She made her Bayreuth debut in 2020 as Gutrune. Meanwhile, Asszonyi is an Estonian dramatic soprano who has performed at the Estonian National Opera, Novaya Opera Moscow, Belarus State Opera, Latvian National Opera, Lithuanian National Opera, Opera Graz, and Oper Frankfurt, among others.

Götterdämmerung” opens on July 31 while “Die Walküre” opens on July 27. They will be performed as part of three Ring Cycles.
