Bayreuth Festival Announces Cast Change for 2022 Ring Cycle

The Bayreuth Festival has announced a cast change for its upcoming 2022 Ring Cycle.

The festival management announced that John Lundgren will sing Wotan in “Die Walküre” and Wanderer in “Siegfried” in the new “Ring des Nibelungen” in 2022. Lundgren will take over for Austrian bass Günther Groissböck who also canceled this summer’s production of “Walküre.”

In a statement, the festival said, “Katharina Wagner would like to thank John Lundgren very much for his willingness to take over both roles at short notice and to join the rehearsal process immediately. The cast of Wotan in “Das Rheingold” will be announced at a later date.”

Lundgren is  a well known for his Wagnerian roles and has performed at the Bayreuth Festival, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Verbier Festival, Royal Opera House, and Staatsoper Hamburg.
