Bayreuth Festival Announces Operas For 2020 Edition

The Bayreuth Festival has announced its 2020 season.

As previously announced the season will focus on a new production of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” Pietari Inkinen will conduct the production with Valentin Schwarz directing the new production with sets designed by Andrea Cozzi. Andy Besuch will be responsible for the costumes.

In addition to three complete The Ring Cycles, the program will include revivals of “Tannhäuser,” “Lohengrin,” and ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.”

Axel Kober will take over the musical direction of “Tannhäuser” and will also conduct two “Lohengrin” performances.

The festival will also celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday, with a performance of the 9th Symphony under the musical direction of Marek Janowski.
