Bayerische Staatsoper Cancels ‘Swan Lake;’ Adds Opera Performances

The Bayerische Staatsoper has canceled performances of “Swan Lake” by the Bavarian State Ballet on Oct. 27 and 30 due to some members testing positive for the coronavirus.

As a result, the company has added performances of “Macbeth” and “Madama Butterfly.”

The Oct. 27 performance of “Macbeth” will star Željko Lučić, Liudmyla Monastyrska, and Saimir Pirgu, while the Oct. 30 performance of “Madama Butterfly” will star Ermonela Jaho as Cio-Cio-San and Saimir Pirgu as B. F. Pinkerton.

The company also announced that it is adding two more performances of “Hansel and Gretel” to the program in December. The new dates will be Dec. 14 and 15 and the opera will star Tara Erraught and Corinna Scheurle as Hansel and Maureen McKay and Emily Pogorelc as Gretel.
