The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced Christopher Heil as its new Chorus director.

In a statement, Heil said, “I am very happy and grateful to be part of the impressive and vibrant tradition of the Bavarian State Opera, which is in the best hands with Serge Dorny and Vladimir Jurowski. Taking over the direction of the Bayerische Staatsoper Choir is both an honor and a commitment for me. I have had the good fortune to work with this top-class ensemble over the past few months. I already feel very connected to the choir and am particularly looking forward to working with all the wonderful colleagues from the Bayerische Staatsoper.”

General Director Serge Dorny took to Twitter and added, “Together with Vladimir Jurowski I look forward to future cooperation!”

Heil is a German-Austrian conductor and pianist and grew up in Tübingen. He studied conducting, piano, church music, and German at the universities in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. Since 2019 he has been a regular guest at such opera houses in Lyon, Strasbourg, and Brussels. He has also worked with the Bayreuth Festival.
