The Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich has a new casting director.

The company announced that David Lomelí, former Director of Artistic Administration at the Dallas Opera, will become Casting Director for the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. He will officially begin in the summer of 2021, but will serve as casting consultant for the organization during the upcoming year.

In the meantime, Lomelí will continue his current role at the Dallas Opera through March 2021. He will then become casting consultant for The Dallas Opera while moving permanently to Munich during the transition period.

Lomelí became the first Latino to occupy a top casting position at a major opera house in the U.S. and the first manager of the Hart Institute for Women Conductors at the Dallas Opera. Prior to his work in administration, he was a tenor who performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Glyndebourne Festival, Los Angeles Opera, Deutsche Opera Berlin, Opera National de Paris, Teatro alla Scala, and San Francisco Opera.
