The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a new cast change for its production of “Der Fliegende Holländer.”

The company announced that Nicholas Brownlee will sing the title role, replacing the originally announced Gerald Finley.

Brownlee has performed the role at the Santa Fe Opera, Palau de les Arts, and Oper Frankfurt. He has performed at the Metropolitan Opera,  Bayerische Staatsoper, Dutch National Opera, and Gran Teatre del Liceu.

This is the second change in the cast, following the Asmik Grigorian’s withdrawal.

Brownlee will join a cast that includes Camilla Nylund, Franz-Josef Selig, Benjamin Bruns, Natalie Lewis, Tansel Akzeybek, and Gerald Finley. Mikko Franck conducts the production which opens on March 25 and runs through March 31, 2025.
