The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

The company said, “In the performances of ‘Un ballo in maschera’ on January 26th and 29th and on February 1st, 5th and 8th, 2025, Ludovic Tézier will take on the role of Renato instead of Igor Golovatenko.”

The news comes a few days after Tézier exited Paris Opera’s “Das Rheingold” due to illness. This season, the French baritone has already performed “La Forza del Destino” at the Teatro alla Scala and is set to take on the roles of “Simon Boccanegra” in Berlin and “Rigoletto” in Erl, among other things. He also performs in productions of “Parsifal” and “Tannhäuser.”

Tézier will join a cast that includes Charles Castronovo, Nicole Car, Yulia Matochkina, and Seonwoo Lee. Johannes Erath’s production is conducted by Andrea Battistoni.
