The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its April 14 performance of “Parsifal”

The company noted that due to illness Simon O‘Neill would not be performing the title role. As a result, Stuart Skelton will take over.

Skelton is one of today’s most revered Wagnerian singers of his generation. He has performed the title role of Parsifal around the world including in Australia. He has performed at every major opera house in the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, English National Opera, Paris Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Hamburg State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala, Semperoper Dresden, the Wiener Staatsoper and with the Lucerne, Salzburg, Baden-Baden and Aix-en-Provence Festivals.

The tenor joins a cast that includes Christian Gerhaher, Bálint Szabó, Christof Fischesser, Jochen Schmeckenbecher, and Anja Kampe. Marek Janowski conducts.
