Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk will not perform the role of Lady Macbeth for the performances of Verdi’s “Macbeth” on July 26 & 29, 2021.

As a result, Liudmyla Monastyrska will take over the role. The soprano has performed Lady Macbeth at the Royal Opera House to great success and has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Teatro alla Scala.

Monastyrska will join a cast that includes Pavol Breslik as Macduff, Roberto Tagliavini as Banco, and Sir Simon Keenlyside in the title role. Pinchas Steinberg conducts a production by Martin Kušej.

Semenchuk is scheduled to perform the role of Santuzza in Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” alongside Carlo Ventre and Franco Vassallo at the Teatro Verdi di Salerno in August 2021.
