Bayerische Staatsoper Announces Cast Change for ‘Aida’

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its production of “Aida.”

The company said that Clémentine Margaine will replace Anita Rachvelishvili in the role of Amneris on May 28, June 1, and 4, 2023. Meanwhile, Ekaterina Semenchuk will sing the role on June 7 replacing Rachvelishvili.

Margaine has performed at the Semperoper Dresden, Oper Köln, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro San Carlo, Metropolitan Opera, and Opera Australia. Meanwhile, Semenchuk is a well-known interpreter of Amneris who has performed the role in Salzburg, Rome, and San Francisco, among others.

They will join a cast that includes Elena Stikhina, Brian Jagde, Gregory Kunde, Alexander Köpeczi, and George Petean. Daniele Rustioni conducts the new production by Damiano Michieletto.

Rachvelishvili returns to the production for the Munich Opera Festival on July 23, 27, and 30, 2023.
