Bayeriche Staatsoper Cancels Performances Due to Coronavirus

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced that it will close its doors from March 11 to April 19.

In a statement via social media, the company said that “that due to the coronavirus and by order of the ministry all performances would be canceled.

The company also noted that in the meantime it would make some performances available as live stream or as VOD.

For ticketholders, the company announced that all tickets of cancelled performances will be automatically cancelled.

The performances that will be affected included Verdi’s “I Masnadieri,” Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov,” “7 Deaths of Maria Callas,” Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and Thomas’ “Mignon.”

The Bayerische Staatsoper is the latest company in Europe to announce cancellations. It joins the Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Paris Opera, Royal Opera Muscat, and Teatro la Fenice.
