Baritone Steven LaBrie Officially Joins Il Divo

By Francisco Salazar

Il Divo has officially announced that Steven LaBrie will be joining the pop-opera band.

The news comes two years after Il Divo member Carlos Marín died of COVID-19 and after LaBrie began touring with the band.

In a statement to People magazine Urs Bühler said, “It just fit right in, in everything. He was always a breath of fresh air. It’s wonderful. I count myself and ourselves incredibly lucky that we found him to come and join us.”

According to the band, after they performed show after show with LaBrie, they began to believe that the baritone was the right choice to fill the spot.

LaBrie told People, “I’m really, really happy. Last year was a very heavy year honoring Carlos and celebrating his life with the music that he helped formulate with these other three wonderful humans here. And traveling the world and helping the healing process of all of the fans around the world was such an honor for me — and now, getting to move forward with them.”

Il Divo will also be touring abroad beginning in October.

LaBrie is a baritone who has performed with numerous opera companies including Tiroler Festspiele Erl,  Teatro Nuovo, Opera Baltimore, Florida Grand Opera, and New Amsterdam Opera, among others. OperaWire has raved about the baritone stating, “baritone Steven LaBrie practically stole the show every time he was onstage. The baritone has an earthier vocal quality that sounds a bit contained in the middle. But once he gets a chance to unleash the voice in his upper range, it blossoms into a strikingly poignant bright timbre.”
