Baritone Gregory Purnhagen to Star in Cathedral of St. John the Divine’s ‘Cathedral Christmas’ Concert

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is set to present “Fantasias and Carols: A Cathedral Christmas” on Dec. 14, 2019.

The event will feature music by such composers as Giovanni Gabrieli, Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten, John Rutter, David Wilcocks, Donald Fraser, and Marcelo Dupré, and George Frideric Handel.

The performance will be led by music director Kent Tritle alongside Bryan Zaros with showcase baritone Gregory Purnhagen and organist Raymond Nagem as the soloists.

Purnhagen’s career has featured a wide variety of repertory, with the singer specializing in a lot of Philip Glass’ music. He has also created a number of cabaret shows in New York and has recorded a number of albums. He has also appeared in productions of contemporary opera from such composers as David Lang, Nick Brooke, Yoav Gal, Fred Ho and Michael Kowalski.
