Bare Opera to Present ‘The Presence of Odradek’ Online

Bare Opera will be presenting “The Presence of Odradek” on May 10, 2020 at 7 p.m. EDT.

The experimental opera, composed by David Rosenmeyer and directed by Malena Dayen, will be streamed online via Bare Opera’s official website.

The work utilizes text by Kafka in conjunction with poems by Avot Yeshurun to explore how art is able to able to provide presence to an absence.  The work is written for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and chamber orchestra; there is also pre-recorded material and improvisations from singers around the world.

The company has also revealed that the opera will have a live world premiere once the social distancing measures have been lifted. While the date has yet to be established, the company has noted that the work will be presented at Culture Hub at LaMama in New York City.
