Bare Opera Announces 2018-19 Season
By David SalazarBare Opera has announced its 2018-19 season, which will feature operas from the art forms very beginnings and another from a more recent time.
The season starts in November with performances of Monteverdi’s seminal “L’Incoronazione di Poppea.” The production will be directed by David Paul.
“He enthusiastically approached me last year with the concept of his edgy production of Poppea focusing on themes of power, sexuality, passion, and immorality,” Bare Opera Artistic Director Kirsten Scott told OperaWire. “It will be our most daring production yet – and tastefully shortened to under two hours, keeping with our Bare Opera tradition.
“We are also dramatically expanding our talent pool for the large cast to include even more established artists in the field, many of whom have sung on some of the greatest operatic stages.”
Performance Dates: Nov. 16, 17, 18
The company will then mount Piazzolla’s “Maria de Buenos Aires” in April 2019. The work will star Malena Dayan in the title role; she will also be directing the production.
Performance Dates: April 2019
The company is also set to feature a gala in early October, will reprise its Karaoke night, and will also showcase a few opera and art song recitals.
