Bard Summerscape 2024 Spotlights Berlioz & His Contemporaries

Bard Summerscape has announced its 2024 festival, which will center on Hector Berlioz and his world.

Here is a rundown of vocal performances.

The company will present Meyerbeer’s “Le Prophète” in a production by Christian Räth and conducted by Leon Botstein. The opera will star Robert Watson, Jennifer Feinstein, and Amina Edris.

Performance Date: July 26 – August 4, 2024

As part of a series focusing on Berlioz, there will be a session that spotlights his monodrame lyrique “Lélio, ou Le retour à la vie.”

Performance Date: August 9, 2024

There will be a program featuring songs by Berlioz as well as music by Reicha, von Weber, Thomas, Spontini, and Le Sueur.

Performance Date: August 10, 2024

Another program will feature excerpts from Berlioz’s “Le Troyens” and the “Te Deum” as well as overtures by Gluck and Auber.

Performance Date: August 10, 2024

There will be a concert featuring songs and arias by Berlioz, Meybeer, Rossini, Wagner, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, Liszt, and Bizet.

Performance Date: August 11, 2024

Another concert will feature Berlioz’s “Le mort d’Ophélie” and Pauline Viardot’s “Le dernier sorcier.” Also on the program are works by Luise Bertin, Marie de Grandval, and Louise Farrenc.

Performance Date: August 11, 2024

Another program will center on sacred music by Berlioz, Cherubini, Rossini, Fauré, and Saint-Saëns, among others.

Performance Date: August 15, 2024

There will be a performance of Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust.”

Performance Date: August 18, 2024
