
Bard Conservatory of Music Announces 7th Annual Kurtág Festival Honoring György Kurtág’s 100th Birthday
By Afton MarkayThe Bard Conservatory of Music presents the seventh season of the Kurtág Festival, “Signs, Games and Messages,” honoring Hungarian composer György Kurtág’s 100th birthday.
The festival presents solo, vocal, and chamber works by Kurtág alongside music by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Bartók, Benjamin, Abrahamsen, Adès, and others. The program also includes the U.S. premieres of selections from the later volumes of Játékok.
Vocal artists performing in the festival include soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbons, mezzo-soprano Sydney Cornett, baritone Benjamin Appl, and additional faculty and students of the Bard College Conservatory of Music.
Performances take place March 11 through 19 at Bard College’s Annandale campus. An additional event is held at the Brooklyn Public Library on April 4.
