Bard College Opens Up Investigation into Leon Botstein and Epstein’s Ties
By Francisco SalazarBard College has opened up an investigation into Leon Botstein’s ties to Epstein.
The Guardian is reporting that the college’s board of trustees retained the outside law firm of WilmerHale to conduct an independent investigation of the “full scope of these communications,” financial contributions connected to Epstein, and any related matters.
The board also noted that once the investigation was complete, the law firm would make recommendations regarding policies and practices on donor vetting, fundraising, codes of conduct and conflicts of interest.
The news comes after it was discovered that Botstein and Epstein exchanged emails for years. According to a search from OperaWire, Botstein appeared in thousands of emails regarding meetings with Epstein that trace back to 2012, years after Epstein had pleaded guilty to one count of “Felony Solicitation of Prostitution” and one count of “Procuring Person under 18 for Prostitution” and was already a registered as a Sexual Offender. The two met on a number of occasions as Botstein allegedly sought donations for the college.
Botstein has already released a statement that noted he “was not friends with Epstein” and that he “regretted the this connection” and shared his “deepest sympathies for Epstein’s victims.”
