Barbara Hannigan to be Presented with Major Award in Dresden this May

Barbara Hannigan is set to receive the 2020 Glashütte Original Music Festival Award at the 43rd Dresden Music Festival.

The ceremony will take place on May 28, 2020 at Kulturpalast Dresden following her performance with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.  She will be endowed with 25, 000 euros. In addition to being a renowned soprano and conductor, she has been a champion of nurturing younger artists with her Equilibrium Young Artists program.

“Barbara Hannigan is a creative volcano! She is one of the most innovative artists in today’s musical world. The courageous commitment to support young musicians she has shown from the beginning of her career has been particularly extraordinary and impressive. This is why she is ideally suited for the Glashütte Original MusicFestival Award which honors artists who share cultural experiences with younger generations,” said Jan Vogler, director of the Dresden Music Festival in a press statement.

Other recipients of the award include as Hélène Grimaud, Hilary Hahn, fado singer Mariza, Andris Nelsons, Steven Isserlis, Joyce DiDonato, and violinist Joshua Bell.
