Barbara Hannigan & Anne Schwanewilms Win The Grammy
By Francisco SalazarThe Grammy Awards have been announced with numerous opera singers winning the prestigious award.
The producer of the year award went to David Frost, who produced Verdi’s “Otello” for the Metropolitan Opera. The DVD stars Aleksandrs Antonenko, Sonya Yoncheva, and Zeljko Lucic. Günther Groissböck and Dimitri Pittas round out the cast.
The award for Best Opera recording went to the Houston Symphony’s recording of Berg’s “Wozzeck.” The album from Naxos, is conducted by Hans Graf and is produced by Hans Graf and Brad Sayles. The opera stars Anne Schwanewilms and Roman Trekel with the Chorus Of Students and Alumni of the Shepherd School Of Music, Rice University & Houston Grand Opera Children’s Chorus.
Barbara Hannigan took home the Best Classical Solo Vocal album for “Crazy Girl Crazy. The album for Alpha features the Ludwig Orchestra and music by Berg and Gerswhin.
