Bampton Classical Opera to Present ‘L’Isola d’Alcina’

Bampton Classical Opera has a new addition to its 2024 season.

The company revealed that it will present Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s “L’Isola d’Alcina.” The three-act opera is loosely based on the sorceress Alcina and features four men getting washed up on an island where they are seduced by an 800-year-old witch.

The opera will be directed by Jeremy Gray and conducted by Thomas Blunt.

The production will open on July 19 and 20 at The Deanery Garden in Bampton, Oxfordshire. Then it heads to Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire on August 26 before taking the stage at The Barn at Old Walland in Wadhurst, Sussex on August 31. It then heads to London on Sept. 13 for a performance at St. John’s Smith Square.
