Bampton Classical Opera Announces Finalists for Young Singers’ Competition 2025

Bampton Classical Opera will hold the Public Final of its Young Singers’ Competition 2025 on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. at the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium, Wolfson College, Oxford.

The finalists include mezzo-sopranos Emma Roberts and Myrna Tennant; sopranos Seohyun Go, Erin Rossington, Shafali Jalota, and Erin O’Rourke; bass-baritone Wonsick Oh; and baritone Michael Lafferty. Each finalist will perform a 20-minute program.

The judging panel features tenor Bonaventura Bottone, mezzo-soprano Jean Rigby, and vocal coach and pianist Ingrid Surgenor. The first prize winner will take home £2,000, while the second place winner gets £1,000, and the Accompanist Prize winner will be awarded £750.

The competition was founded in 2013 to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. Previous winners include Anna Starushkevych (2013), Galina Averina (2015), Emma Stannard (2017), Lucy Anderson (2019), Cassandra Wright (2021), and Melissa Gregory (2023). Accompanists recognized since 2017 include Keval Shah, Dylan Perez, Ilan Kurtser, and André Bertoncini. The initiative reflects Bampton Classical Opera’s commitment to emerging talent, with former participants progressing to companies such as The Royal Opera, English National Opera, and Opera North.
