Baluarte has announced that it will present “Fidelio” without an audience.

The Spanish theater announced that due to the new health restrictions in Navarra, the company will present the opera via streaming.

Beethoven’s lone opera will be performed in its originally planned concert format on Oct. 15 in the theater and will be broadcast on Navarra Televisión on channel 2. The performance will be rebroadcast on Oc. 17 at 8 p.m. in Spain on channel 1 of Navarra Televisión.

“Fidelio” will be conducted by Manuel Hernández-Silva with Berna Perles as Leonora, César Gutiérrez as Florestán, Damián del Castillo as Don Pizarro, Enric Martínez-Castignani as Rocco, Andrea Jiménez as Marcelina, Javier Povedano as Don Fernando, and Pablo García-López as Joaquino.

Navarra has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases which have forced the government to impose new restrictions including having bars and restaurants close by 10 p.m. and capacity reduced to 30% indoors and 50% outdoors. The region has also announced that social gatherings will be reduced to a maximum of six people. It has become the region with the highest 14-day cumulative number of coronavirus cases in Spain.
