Bach Society of Saint Louis Announces 2023-24 Season

The Bach Society of Saint Louis has announced its 83rd concert season.

“Every season presents us with the opportunity to fulfill our mission of sharing the amazing and timeless music of Bach with our St. Louis audience and explore new and exciting works.  I’m excited to begin this season with a beautiful requiem in English as well as Latin by the English film composer Howard Goodall,” said Music Director and Conductor A. Dennis Sparger in an official press statement issued by the company.

First up will be “Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light,” featuring the Bach Society of Saint Louis Chorus and Orchestra. Dennis Sparger conducts a program featuring music by Ola Gjeilo, Jean Sibelius, and Olaf Christenson, as well as the titular work. Soloists include soprano Hannah De Priest, tenor Dan Frazure and baritone Tyler Duncan.

Performance Date: Oct. 22, 2023

Next up is the Christmas Candlelight Concert.

“Our Christmas concert includes lovely settings of familiar carols plus Händel’s ‘Gloria’ for virtuoso soprano and strings, featuring the Dutch soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg,” said Sparger.

Performance Date: Dec. 9, 2023

Kicking off 2024 will be a rendition of Bach’s “St. John’s Passion.” Sparger conducts with the soloists including tenor Steven Soph, bass Stephen Morscheck, soprano Emily Donato, countertenor Jay Carter, tenor Gene Stenger, and baritone Elijah Blaisdell.

Performance Date: March 10, 2024

Finishing out the season will be “The Heart of Bach, Choral Motets, and Organ Chorales.”
