Aviva Fortunata, Chad Shelton To Star In Calgary Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Calgary Opera has announced its 2019-20 season, which will feature a number of operatic classics and a few rarities as well.

The season kicks off with “La Bohème,” which will star Miriam Khalil and Antoine Bélanger as Mimì and Rodlfo, respectively. Jonathan Brandani conducts a production by Brenna Corner.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9-15, 2019

Aviva Fortunata will star in “Norma” in a production by Nicholas Muni. Chad Shelton will star as Polione. Alice Farnham conducts.

Performance Date: Feb. 1, 5, 7, 2020

Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” will be directed by Laurence Dale and conducted by Gordon Gerrard. Sharleen Joynt will star as Zerbinetta while Renée Rapier and Rebecca Nash will be the Composer and Ariadne, respectively.

Performance Dates: April 25May 1, 2020

The company will also showcase a holiday production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” as part of its Christmas at the Opera.

Performance Date: Dec. 6-9, 2019 

Berlioz’s “Béatrice et Bénédict” will be showcased featuring members of the company’s Emerging Artist Development Program.

Performance Dates: March 25-28, 2020
