Austin Opera to Celebrate 40th Anniversary with Gala Concert

By Francisco Salazar

The Austin Opera is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a November birthday concert.

The concert will be held on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts.

Timothy Myers will lead the Austin Opera Orchestra & Chorus and a cast of guest vocalists in famous arias and ensembles from operatic masterpieces like Verdi’s “Aïda,” Puccini’s “Tosca” and “Turandot” (including “Nessun dorma”), Bizet’s “Carmen,” and Wagner’s “Tannhäuser.”

The concert will also feature musical selections from this season’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” and pieces made possible by the Butler Fund for Spanish Programming.

In a statement, Myers said, “I am so pleased by the wonderful variety of artistic experiences we have created for this 40th birthday season in Austin. November’s birthday concert will be both an exciting preview of this season’s Fiddler on the Roof as well as a celebration of the artists who make opera such a singularly thrilling live experience. There will be something for every Austinite, whether this is your first year as an opera fan or your 40th.”

Among the soloists who will participate in the concert are Leah Crocetto, Jonathan Burton, Zoie Reams, and Malcolm MacKenzie.
