Aušrinė Stundytė, Stefan Vinke & Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa Lead Oper Köln’s 2021-22 Season

Oper Köln has announced its 2021-22 season featuring new productions, kinderoper, and a Ring Cycle.

Premieres

Korngold’s “Die Tote Stadt” will be directed by Tatjana Gürbaca and conducted by Gabriel Feltz. The cast will be led by Stefan Vike, Burkhard Fritz, Aušrinė Stundytė, Kristiane Kaiser, Miljenko Turk, and Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger.

Performance Dates: Sept. 4-25, 2021

The company will present “Schnittstellen (II)” with ensemble members of the Oper Koln including Ivana Rusko, Juyeon Shin, Lotte Verstaen, Seungjick Kim, and Josef Jeongmeem Ahn. Robert Hp Platz conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18-28, 2021

Saariaho’s “L’Amour de Loin” will star Holger Falk, Emily Hindrichs, Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa, and Katrin Wundsam. Constantin Trinks conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 24-Nov. 13, 2021

Walter Braunfels’s “Die Vögel” will be directed by Nadja Loschky and will star Burkhard Fritz, Young Woo Kim, Joshua Bloom, Samuel Youn, Bjarni Thor Kristinsson, Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger, Insik Choi, Daniela Fally, and Gloria Rehm.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5, 2021-Jan. 13, 2022

Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” will star Anna Lucia Richter, Regina Richter, Katrin Wundsam, Kathrin Zukowski, Ana Fernandez Guerra, Miljenko Turk, Stefan Hadžić, Judith Thielsen, Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa, Dallia Schaechter, and Jasmin Etezadzadeh. Francois-Xavier Roth Conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19, 2021-Jan. 23, 2022

Lajos Wenzel’s “Cäcilia Wolkenburg: Napoleon en Kolle” will be staged.

Performance Dates: Jan. 29-March 1, 2022

Kai Anne Schuhmacher directs Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” with a cast that includes Florian Reiners, Kathrin Zukowski, Seungjick Kim, Rebecca Murphy, Dustin Drosdziok, Sung Jo Cho, and Lucas Singer. Rainer Mühlbach conducts.

Performance Dates: March 13-18, 2022

York Höller’s “Der Meister und Margarita” is set to star Nikolay Borchev, Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa, Bjarni Thor Kristinsson, Matthias Hoffmann, John Heuzenroeder, Regna Richter, Alastiar Miles, Martin Koch, Lucas Singer, and Judith Thielsen. André de Ridder conducts.

Performance Dates: April 3-17, 2022

Paul Appleby and Isabelle Druet star in Berlioz’s “Beatrice et Benedict” alongside Sebastien Dutrieux, Jenny Daviet, Miljenko Turk, Ivan Thorion, and Lotte Verstaen. Francois-Xavier Roth conducts.

Performance Dates: April 3-May 15, 2022

Purcell’s “Der Sturm” will be conducted by Markellos Chryssicos and directed by Jean Renshaw and will star Josef Jeongmeen Ahn, Juyeon Shin, Anna Malesza-Kutny, Lotte Verstaen, Dustin Drosdziok, Luzia Tietze, Sung Jun Cho, and Martin Dvořák.

Roderick Williams and Julia Bullock star in “Upload” with Otto Tausk conducting and Michael van der Aa directing.

Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa and Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger lead Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” with George Petrou.

Revival 

Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa sings the title role of Bizet’s “Carmen” with Martin Muehle, Young Woo Kim, Kathrin Zukowski, Claudia Rohrbach, and Samuel Youn. Alfred Eschwe conducts.

Performance Dates: May 6-June 5, 2022

Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” is set to star Kathrin Zukowski, Seungjick Kim, Rainelle Krause, Gloria Rehm, Miljenko Turk, Matthias Hoffmann, and Lucas Singer.

Performance Dates: June 17-July 3, 2022

Natalja Pavlova, Dmytro Popov, Adriana Bastidas-Gamboa, Samuel Youn, and Dalia Schaechter star in Dvořák’s “Rusalka” with Constantin Trinks conducting.

The Ring Cycle

The Ring Cycle will be presented in a family-friendly version.

Insik Choi stars in “Das Rheingold” alongside John Heuzenroeder, Stefan Hadžić, Sung Jun Cho, Lucas Singer, and Judith Thielsen.

“Die Walküre” will star Thomas Ziesch, Young Woo Kim, Anna Malesza-Kutny, Sung Jun Cho, Insik Choi, Judith Thielsen,  and Jessica Stavros.
